A tragic end

The Gallatin Police Department is using a
new weapon in law enforcement – they’re
motorcycles, but not the kind of police
motorcycle one might be accustomed to
seeing.
The two motorcycles the police have
purchased are Enduro bikes with a 260 cc
engine. They’ve been in use by the police
department for about three weeks.
Officer Angela Lawson, one of the
officers who have used the bike while on
patrol, said Wednesday, “We got them
based on the success of the bicycles.
They’re a little faster transportation for us,
but still flexible in where we can go.”
“We can go through cuts where we’ve
only been able to go on bicycle or foot,
and we can cover an entire zone rather
than a small area that we can cover on the
bicycles.
“When we’re on our bicycles,” Officer
Brad Tracy said, “we might get a call in a
part of our zone that we can’t get to
because we are on our bikes, but with the
motorcycles, we can get to those calls.

This topic was brought up at the board’s
last study session by Rob Wheeler (5th
district) and placed on the agenda for the
Tuesday, April 15, meeting. This topic
brought Mike Fussel (1st district) to attend
the study session, despite having just
returned from a long car drive from Texas
to Tennessee, and he commented that he
looked forward to a full discussion on the
evening of the board’s
